About Baldric the Poet
Baldric the Poet is a Secular Franciscan (SFO), former urban planner, and dairy goat farmer. His poetry is inspired by faith, farm life, and the natural world, offering thoughtful reflections on modern society and a compassionate call for peace.
On His
Work
Readers have noted that Baldric’s ability to merge these diverse life experiences into his poetry is what gives his work its unique weight. He characterizes the act of writing as a “form of prayer,” a concept that resonates strongly with his readership. Commentators frequently describe his poems as “lyrical, sharp, and insightful,” noting how he handles complex emotions with a sense of authentic resolve. They appreciate the writing’s honesty, identifying Baldric as a contributor who elevates the creative process to a “sacred and necessary” pursuit, resulting in heartfelt, spiritually rooted, and socially conscious pieces.
The Franciscan Series
Baldric’s upcoming book, Blessed Brother Giles, is the first in a three-book series exploring the holy obscurity of the 13th-century monastic mystic. It will be released on Amazon and distributed via IngramSpark on September 15th. The second volume is nearly finished, and the third is already proving to be a delightful nuisance in the back of his mind.
This historical fiction series offers a vivid look into the early Franciscan movement, centering on the real-life experiences of Brother Giles prior to the death of St. Francis in 1226.
The debut volume introduces Giles through a blend of parables and Italian travel, drawing directly from Fr. Paschal Robinson’s 1907 translation of the Dicta. The later portion of the book is an alternative history novella detailing his trip to Tunis. The book also has a couple of modernized prayers paraphrased from Fr. Robinson’s book.
The upcoming second and third volumes build on this foundation, bringing Giles’s journey to life while remaining deeply rooted in Franciscan spirituality.
