When Eros Command

a chill,
      a mutter,
             fret then gust,

angry,
      broody,
            pressing, swelling,

humidity

Bright flash.
      Streaks of white lightning.

Cymbals.
      Await a ringing crash.

Braced gasp, storm is tightening,
      shadows of furious titans clash.

Low rambling rumbles growl
      under dark shrouds, and

a bruised, black ocean
      casually churns.

Merciless thunder moans
      below murderous clouds;

old, heavy timbers turn.
Typhoon seething,

slipping its heavy chains,
Zeus swings a single, pointed spear,
      and
            splits

the skies
       showing his sullen strain;

a sudden deluge
       spreads the dismal dark

And then,
silence drops like some squealing brake;
great Eros rumbles, decrees the gods shall yield.
A clear, cold gleaming expands across the sea;
and a freezing express,

       leaves

            human breathing

                        stilled

Brief Note About the Poem

Written in Baldric the Poet’s signature reflective style. It blends secular emotion with contemplative, almost devotional phrasing. The poem presents love not merely as a pleasant feeling but as an inescapable force of nature.
